26 Essential CrossFit Terms


WoD - Workout of the Day

Box - a CrossFit gym, where the WoD happens

Metcon - Metabolic Conditioning a form of WoD

For Time - indicates that you should complete the task as quickly as possible

AMRAP - As Many Rounds/Reps as Possible

RFT - Rounds for Time

EMOM - Every Minute on the Minute

Tabata - 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest for 8 rounds - brutal

Chipper - a type of WoD with may reps of many movements that you ‘chip’ away at until complete.

Rx - as prescribed, doing the workout with the original load and reps (not as important as many think)

Scaled - Reducing the load, reps or distance of the WoD in order to maintain intensity and get the most benefit.

PR - Personal Record also know as a PB or Personal best

BW - Bodyweight

DU’s - Double Unders; when the skipping rope passes under your feet twice each jump

TTB - Toes to Bar

PU - Pull up

C2B - Chest to bar pull up

KB - Kettlebell

KBS - Kettlebell swings

Stabilising the Midline - bracing the abs and back to maintain the natural curve of the spine

ROM - Range of Movement

SDHP - Sumo Deadlift High Pull

HSPU - Handstand Push Up

HRPU - Hand Release Push Up

OHS - Over head squat

DOMS - Delayed onset muscle soreness, typically comes 24 to 48 hours after the WoD!
